World Climbing Series Wujiang
Twelve days after Sanya, Zhao Yicheng did it again, on the same soil. In the semi-final at the Fenhu Culture and Sports Center, Wujiang's long-running World Cup venue, Zhao stopped the clock at 4.54 seconds, lowering his own world record and beating former record holder Sam Watson head-to-head in the process (Watson ran 4.67 in that heat).
Zhao went on to take the title, with China's Long Jianguo claiming silver and Watson the bronze, confirming that China now has depth in men's speed as well as a record holder.
The women's title went to Poland's Aleksandra Mirosław, the Paris 2024 Olympic champion, racing her farewell season, ahead of Elizaveta Ivanova (competing as a neutral athlete) and Indonesia's Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi.
Wujiang also produced what commentators called the fastest speed qualification round of all time, with Indonesia's Kiromal Katibin among the sub-4.9 qualifiers.
